Grandma Silver’s Brownies

1 c. granulated sugar
1/3 c. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. flour

Place ingredients in bowl; mix for three minutes. Pour into 8-inch by 8-inch or 9-inch by 9-inch baking pan. Before baking, I pour over the top, melted together, 1/2 cup caramel bits, 1/4 cup chocolate chips and 2 Tbsp. milk. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. When cool, I drizzle about 1/3 cup chocolate chips over brownies. I cut into wedges and serve with ice cream.
