Fred L. Dahlman, 86

Long Prairie

Funeral Services were held on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 11:00AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie for Fred L. Dahlman, age 86 of Long Prairie who passed away Tuesday, September 13 at his residence. The Reverend Noah Wehrspann officiated and burial was at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Long Prairie. Friends and family called from 4-7 PM on Thursday and 10-11 AM Friday at the church. Funeral arrangements were entrusted with the Williams Dingmann, Stein Chapel in Long Prairie.

Frederick Lawrence Dahlman was born on November 23, 1924 in Long Prairie, Todd County, MN to the late Carl and Laura (Johnson) Dahlman. After graduating from Long Prairie High Scool, Fred attended Hamline University. In !942, he cut his education short and entered into the U.S. Army, serving in Europe during WWII. Honorably discharged in 1946, Fred resumed his studies at St.Cloud State. In 1950, Fred again entered service for his country during the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in 1952. He received the silver and bronze stars as well as many service ribbons. In between his stints in the Army, Fred was united in marriage to Avis Busacker, and when Fred returned after the war, they settled in Long Prairie. Fred then worked with his father at Dahlman Abstract, and beginning in 1958 until his retirement in 1986, he operated the company as owner. Fred enjoyed playing Golf and Bridge as a member of the Long Prairie Golf and Men’s Clubs. He also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and was an avid reader (especially histories). Fred looked forward to deer hunting in the fall in earlier years.

Fred was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie and a life long member of the Long Prairie American Legion and V.F.W. posts. He was the Todd County Recorder from 1959-1986, and was president of the Minnesota Land Title Association from 1972-1973.

Fred  is survived by his wife Avis; children, Steven (Katy) Dahlman of Sante Fe, NM, and Jane Iverson of Long Prairie; grandchildren, Benjamin and Abigail Dahlman, Jack, Timothy, Peter, and Joel Iverson; cousins, Doris Stuckmayer, Sandy Meiners, Georgann Larson, Janice Gerth, Devona Kilgard, William Swanson, and Lois Gunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Marvel Greenly.

Casketbearers will be Jack Iverson, Timothy Iverson, Peter Iverson, Joel Iverson, Ben Dahlman, Ronald Wienhold, and Kenneth Rosenow.
