Alice Victoria Adamson was born March 21, 1919 to Austin and Mabel (Bangtson) Adamson in Svea, MN. The family moved to Minneapolis, MN in 1925. She was the oldest of 4 children. Alice graduated from Minnehaha Academy in 1937. She worked at General Mills, in the Kix cereal department and later at an Insurance Co. Alice was united in marriage to Harris H. Hanson, August 23, 1942. Because of World War II, they lived in Spokane, WA, Dayton, OH, and Cambridge, MA. In 1946, Harris took a job with Hart Press—thus moving Alice to Long Prairie, MN. After building their home, Alice played golf, bowled on a league, and became involved at First Baptist Church. Through the years, she taught Sunday School, was treasurer for the Mission Aid, and sang solos, played the piano and directed the church choir for almost 40 years.
Alice adored being Harris’ wife and was a great helpmate to him as they traveled together for 68 years. She loved going on business or pleasure trips—traveling to 75 countries, all the States, and quiet times at the Hanson cottage. She felt honored to be the mother to Harley, Sheloa, and Craig! She loved being Grandma to 10 grandchildren and now four great Grandsons!
Alice’s faith in Jesus Christ was evident to all, as she daily read her Bible and did devotions with Harris. She prayed faithfully for family, friends and missionaries around the world. Alice enjoyed reading, sewing, playing games, and entertaining many in their home. Her rich Swedish heritage was reflected in her baking and cooking.
The last 3 years, Alice has been a resident at the Long Prairie Nursing Home. Her days there weren’t easy and she missed her beloved Harris so much. She died unexpectedly on November 14th, 6 months after Harris’ death.
Alice will be dearly missed by her family; sons, Harley (Sally) of Long Prairie, and Craig (Joan) of Long Lake, MN, son-in-law, Richard (Meridee) Hillman of Castle Rock, CO, sister, Phyllis Herman of Minneapolis, MN, grandchildren, Harrison (Rebecca) Hanson, Stephen (Laura) Hanson, Mark (Christy) Hanson, Bjorn (Aly) Hanson, Nathan (Rebecca) Hillman, Joanna (Matthew) Douglas, Julia Hillman, Jennifer Hanson, Christopher Hanson, and Hayden Hanson, great grandchildren, Hezekiah, Gideon, and Abraham Hanson and Anders Hillman.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband Harris, (May 4, 2011), daughter Sheloa Hanson Hillman (1980), her brothers, Lyle Adamson and Russell Adamson, and her parents, Austin and Mabel Adamson.
Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church in Long Prairie, and to Camp Lebanon in Upsala, MN.
