Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 26, 2011 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Edmund Herges, age 97. Ed passed away Sunday, November 20th at the Assumption Nursing Home. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Parish Cemetery in Marty (Pearl Lake), MN.
Relatives and friends may call one hour prior to the mass at the church.
Ed was born in St. Martin, MN to John and Mary (Doll) Herges. He married Josephine Hagemann at the Church of St. Martin, St. Martin on May 30, 1939. Ed was the owner of Herges Meat Market, Foley and Herges Sausage House, Waite Park. He and Jo retired to Pearl Lake and later moved to Assumption Court in Cold Spring. Ed enjoyed fishing, golfing, woodworking, gardening, music, watching the Twins, “wintering” in Arizona and spending time with family and friends. Some of his best years were singing and traveling with the Cold Spring Maennerchor.
Survivors include his children, Kathy (Jerry) Schwieters, Sartell, Eileen (Bill) Kampa, St. Francis, Lynn (Herb) Latterell, Roseville, Doris (Denis) Tadych, Coon Rapids, Mary Lou (Guy) Holt, Becker, Gary (Deb) Herges, Alexandria, Rick (Mary Kay) Herges, Rochester, and Jayna (Jose) Chapa, Maple Grove; brother, Paul (Rita) Herges, St. Cloud; sisters-in-law, Alma Herges, Melrose, and Peg Herges, St. Martin; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife (2007); infant daughter (1943); brothers, Math and Eugene; sisters, Rose Mohs, Gert Wehseler and Mina Tholl.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Assumption Nursing Home as well as Heartland Hospice for the excellent care given to Ed.
