Arthur A. Fischer 86, of Sauk Centre died on Friday, February 3, 2012, at his home in Sauk Centre. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Elrosa. Burial will be at St. Anthony Cemetery in Padua. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:30-8:00 pm at Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade and continue for one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to St Anthony of Padua Cemetery Fund, St. Donatus Catholic Church, PO Box 159, Brooten, MN 56316 are requested.
Arthur was born on January 30, 1926 at the family farm in Stark Township, Brown County, MN, to Frank and Clara (Bruckbauer) Fischer. He attended country school and St. Mary’s School in Sleepy Eye. Art served in the United States Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of World War II and was very proud that he had 4 brothers who also served in the military.
On September 16, 1952, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Teresa Schumacher at The Church of Japanese Martyrs, Leavenworth, MN. They farmed in Brown County until 1974 when they purchased a farm near Padua. Art retired and moved to Sauk Centre in 2001. Art enjoyed playing cards, dancing, visiting with friends, trapshooting, hunting deer, pheasant and ducks and passed his enjoyment of the outdoors to his children. Art was a member of the VFW Club, Sleepy Eye Sportsmen Club and Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his 11 children: Brenda Fischer (Kerry) Langehenning of Lexington, TX; Beverly (Mark) Hardt of Billings, MT; Bruce Fischer of Sauk Centre, MN; Brian (Cathy) Fischer of Larkspur, CO; Bonita (Ken) Radermacher of Belgrade, MN; Bradley(Cynthia) Fischer of Elrosa,MN; Brent (Ruby) Fischer of Newnan, GA; Barry (Cris) Fischer of Ruthven, IA; Boyd (Annette) Fischer of Brooten, MN; Boyce (Stephanie) Fischer of Brooten, MN; and Byron (Mandy) Fischer of Gettysburg, SD; 20 grandchildren: Bradley Wood, Megan and Michael Fischer, Jessica Smith, Travis Radermacher, Colleen Borgerding, Jeana Graf, Heather Hanson, Christine Fischer, Logan and Dylan Fischer, Blaine, Brooklyn and Bennett Fischer, Kailey, Kacey, and Kamie Fischer; and Ethan, Evan and Ellan Fischer; 7 great grandchildren: Kaiden Wood, Toby and Natalie Hanson, Ada, Leah and Royce Smith and Bryce Borgerding; two brothers, Sylvester (LaVon) Fischer of Lafayette, MN and Benjamin (Genny) Fischer of Sleepy Eye, MN; three sisters, Veronica Simon of Morgan, MN; Rosemary (Hilary) Tauer of Alexandria, MN; and Olivia (Howard) Binder of Gibbon, MN; sister-in-law Rosella Meyer of Bloomington, MN and brother-in-law Vernon Schumacher of Sleepy Eye, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine in 1993, his parents, brothers Edwin, Emil, Herbert and Wilbert; and one sister, Louise Schmitz.
