Katie Winter and Greg Gottwald’s wedding plans continue on track

Wedding plans can be as simple or as complicated as a couple want to make them. If they want to elope, have just a few guests or go all out, every couple should have the wedding that they want.
One Sauk Centre couple that is in the midst of planning their June 9 wedding are Katie Winter and Greg Gottwald. They have decided on a church wedding at St. Paul’s Catholic Church.
Winter and Gottwald met at the Sauk Centre Dairy Queen in the fall of 2005. They became engaged Dec. 6, 2010.
Winter said, “Greg visited the jewelry store and picked out five rings. He rated them one to five. Then he took me to the store and told me to go in alone and pick out a ring. I was really surprised that I picked out the same five rings and that we both had picked the same ring for number one.”
Gottwald said, “It is important to make sure that all the planning that is done for the wedding is done according to what the couple wants and not to what other people feel it should be.”
Discussing their wedding plans, Winter said, “Greg tells me to do whatever I want. He’s not too fussy. I think I am right on track. I have been following the things to do list on theknot.com, and according to that, all is going well.”
She said she still has a few things to do such as a final dress fitting, gifts for the wedding party, send out invitations and purchasing her veil and jewelry.
The couple will have five bridesmaids, two junior bridesmaids, five groomsmen, two flower girls and a ring bearer.
Winter said, “We started planning in December 2010. Time is the most important thing in the planning.”
The most frustrating hurdle the couple had to conquer was being able to coordinate everything they needed on the same day.
“We finally got the church, photographer and reception location all pinned down to June 9,” she said.
The best part of preparing for the wedding for Winter was picking out her wedding dress. She said, “I visited four different stores with my mother, aunt and a friend trying on over 30 gowns before deciding on the second gown I had tried on.”
While some brides-to-be take their future husband along to pick out the gown, Greg will not see the creation she picked out until the morning of the wedding.
Winter said one thing about starting to plan a wedding early is quite often one can come across a good deal. One such deal, she said, “was our wedding invitations. We could take our time, and we came across a really good deal.”
Is Winter experiencing any wedding jitters? “Not yet,” she said. “Everything has been going along smoothly.”
Gottwald said, “I hope every couple’s engagement can be as happy and as stress-free as ours has been.”
Winter, an only child, is the daughter of Tom and Cheryl Winter. She is employed at the Minnesota National Bank in Sauk Centre.
She is a 2006 graduate of Sauk Centre High School and a graduate of Alexandria Technical College in finance and credit. She also attended St. Cloud State University getting a degree in psychology.
Greg is the son of Tammy and Mark Walz. He has 10 siblings and is employed at Midwest Machinery in Alexandria and also works for Jim Klaphake. Greg is a 2004 graduate of Sauk Centre High School and a graduate of Alexandria Technical College.
In their spare time, the couple play a lot of volleyball and enjoy fishing, boating and looking for agates.
After their honeymoon in Colorado, the couple plan on making their home in Sauk Centre.
