Swanville City Council Briefs

Other business that came before the Swanville City Council Tuesday included:

• Approving the application for a liquor license for Bryan and Kelly Allen for Red’s Irish Pub. The Allens are purchasing Shooters Pub. Councilman Tim Grittner abstained from the vote as he is the present owner of Shooters Pub;

• Setting the annual clean-up day for Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.;

• Reminding Council members that the city’s equalization meeting has been set for Tuesday, April 17, at 3 p.m.;

• Agreeing to put a $10,000 U.S. Department of Agriculture refund to the Lions into the city’s account for future projects;

• Giving approval for moving $16,000 from the water fund into the water/road project fund;

• Approving a land use permit for a 6-foot by 6-foot access to the patio of Red’s Irish Pub;

• Agreeing to pay Astech Street Sweeping $83 per hour to sweep the streets as soon as possible. Brian Zapzalka, maintenance person, told Council members that it usually takes approximately nine hours to do the streets;

• Hearing Zapzalka explain there were several trees that were in danger of falling down within the city. He also said there were numerous junk cars sitting around. Letters will be sent to the property owners concerning both issues;

• Directing Zapzalka to move forward on getting the paperwork completed and sent to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to allow for a sewer by-pass which will allow inspection and the fixing of equipment if needed at the sewer treatment plant. Zapzalka said the work would be scheduled for the first week of June after school was out;

• Hearing Mayor Sandy Peterson and Councilman Jim Molitor will attend the next Senior Center Board meeting to discuss payments of electric bills and other issues that may arise; and

• Approving a change in the capitalization policy to depreciate items that are valued at $10,000 or more.

The next regular meeting of the Swanville City Council will be held Tuesday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m.
