Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, MN for Ida Schaefer, age 99, who died Monday at Assumption Nursing Home.  Burial will be in the St. Martin Parish Cemetery.

A visitation for Ida will be after 4:00 p.m. Friday at the St Martin Parish Hall in St. Martin.   Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with St. Martin Christian Women and Rosary Society.  Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the St. Martin Parish Hall.  Arrangements were entrusted with the Wenner Funeral Home, Richmond.

Ida was born in St. Martin, Minnesota to Michael and Anna (Schmitz) Mehr.  She married Henry Schaefer on June 1, 1936 in St. Martin Catholic Church.  Ida was a hard worker and was known for her great work ethic.  She loved quilting and gardening.  Ida will be remembered for her cooking and baking, especially her apple strudel and home baked bread.  She was a member of St. Martin Parish, Christian Women, and Rosary Society.

Survivors include her children, Cyrilla Nohner of Eden Valley, Lucy (Allan) Hess of Cold Spring, Gloria Boie (Arnie Wolf) of Paynesville, Julie (Norbert) Waldorf of Spring Hill, Jeanette (Kenneth) Lahr of St. Nicholas, LeRoy (Alice) Schaefer of St. Cloud, and Marcia (Darwin) Kulzer of Loretto; son-in-law, Clarence Schwieters; sister, Esther (Marlyn) Libbesmeier); brother, Frank Mehr; sister-in-law, Hildegard Mehr; 32 grandchildren, and 46 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Henry (May 26, 1984); daughter, Iverna Schwieters; son, Mark Schaefer; daughter-in-law, Doris Schaefer; sons-in-law, Adrian Nohner and Glen Boie; brothers, John, Jacob, Mathias, and Bernard; sisters, Helen Wieber and Anna Mae Huppert, and grandchildren, Bruce Nohner and Mary Lahr.
