Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Edward Martin Hemmesch, age 91, who died Friday at Assumption Home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Wenner Funeral Home, 151 Oakwood Ave. SE in Richmond. Parish Prayers will be at 4 p.m., followed by a rosary with Catholic Order of Foresters and Catholic United Financial. Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at the funeral home.
Edward was born in Richmond, MN to Henry and Margaret (Fienhage) Hemmesch. He married Leona Rothstein on April 24, 1946 in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Richmond, MN. Edward farmed Northwest of Richmond. He was an avid Twins fan. Edward loved gardening, baking apple pies and angel food cakes. His favorite pastime was playing cards with friends and family. Edward’s grandchildren will remember him for playing games and fixing puzzles.
Survivors include children, Nicholas (Nettie), Jerry (Kathy), Eileen (Dave) Schwindel all of Richmond, Rosie (Daryl) Steil of Rockville, Alma (Rick) Hansen of Avon, Pauline (Joe) Hutton of St. Cloud, and daughter-in-law, Glenda Ruegemer of Richmond; brothers, Alex (Frances) Hemmesch, Cyril (Esther) Hemmesch all of Richmond; brothers-in-law, Ralph (Evelyn), Clarence (Pauline), Marcellus and Nicholas (Margie) Rothstein all of Richmond; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Margaret Hemmesch; wife, Leona (Rothstein) in 1976; son, Robert in 1977; great-grandson, Darrien Hansen in 2003; brothers, Erwin, Harold and Norbert Hemmesch; sister, Loretta Klehr.
