A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at Peace United Church South in Long Prairie, MN, for Hazel A. Flanagan, age 82, of Long Prairie, MN. Rev. Gary Taylor will officiate and burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Long Prairie Township. Friends and family may call from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Stein Chapel in Long Prairie.
Hazel Alvina Berndt was born on November 22, 1929 in Long Prairie Township, MN to the late William and Elizabeth (Cromwell) Berndt. She married Edward Flanagan on June 22, 1954 in Long Prairie, MN. They worked together on the family farm in Reynolds Township. After Edwards death in 1990, Hazel moved into Long Prairie. She worked as a housekeeper at Sarepta Home for the Aged in Sauk Centre, and most recently as a store attendant at the DAC Threadshed I. Hazel enjoyed taking walks, helping, and visiting with people. She always had a sunny disposition. Hazel had a profound faith, was active in her church, and read her daily meditations. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and later Peace United Church in Long Prairie.
Hazel is survived by her sister-in-law, Marie Flanagan of Long Prairie, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by her many friends, church family and co-workers.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward; brothers, Norman, Melvin, John, and James Berndt; and sisters, Helen Berndt, Violet Berndt, Bertha Berndt, and Doris Sullivan.
Casketbearers will be Gale Berndt, Joe Bond, Marvin Reed, Sheri Nanik, Sherry Crider, Stacy Hiemenz, and Kristin Salber.
