Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church in Rockville, MN for Elmer Math Zirbes, age 85, who died Monday at Assumption Court in Cold Spring. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Rockville.
Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 18th at Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. Parish prayers will be at 8:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus, and Catholic United Financial. Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:15 a.m., Thursday morning at the funeral home.
Elmer was born in Lake Henry to Peter and Josephine (Lehnen) Zirbes. He married Catherine Scheierl on May 1, 1951 in St. Louis Catholic Church, Paynesville, MN. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Elmer was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping, cutting trails, walking through the woods, and especially spending time outdoors with his grandchildren. He was a member of American Vets, Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic United Financial, Knights of Columbus, and American Legion, Lake Henry.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Catherine; children, Judith (Zirbes) Leatherwood, Linda Zirbes (James Novak), and Larry Zirbes (Luann Lenzen); brothers and sisters, Alvin (Florence) Zirbes, Lorraine (Norman) Johnson, Norman (Mary) Zirbes, and Mary Ann (Dale) Parkhurst; 7 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jerome and Gerald, and sister-in-law, Lorraine Welle Zirbes.
