Holdingford will celebrate 70th anniversary of Soldiers Shrine
The public is invited to celebrate the 70th annniversary of the Soldiers Shrine in Holdingford, Sunday, Sept. 9, beginning with a 2 p.m. Mass at the shrine, across from All Saints – St. Hedwig’s Church on Cedar Street.
Holdingford will celebrate the 70th anniversary of its Soldiers Shrine in Holdingford Sunday, Sept. 9, beginning with a 2 p.m. Mass at the shrine, across from All Saints – St. Hedwig’s Church on Cedar Street.
All military, American Legion and VFW members are invited to help celebrate and are also invited to come in uniform. This Shrine was dedicated Sept. 6, 1942, as the very first World War II shrine in the United States built to honor those who served in the United States Armed Forces. An estimated 5,000 attended its dedication in 1942.
Attendees may bring a lawn chair. In case of inclement weather, the Mass will be held inside All Saints – St.. Hedwig’s Church. Father Greg Mastey will preside over the services. A reception will follow in the church basement.
