Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2012 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Mary Gertken, age 85, who died Tuesday at Assumption Home. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Parish Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday (TODAY) at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond. Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with Christian Women and Catholic United Financial. Visitation will continue from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Friday morning at the funeral home.
Mary was born in Cold Spring, MN to Leo and Hedwig (Leither) Eichers. She married Sylvester Gertken on September 27, 1950 in St. Boniface Catholic Church, MN. Mary was a homemaker all her life. She was phenomenal at cooking and baking. Mary enjoyed making rosaries, puzzles, playing solitaire and bingo, and MN Twins and Richmond Royals baseball. She was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Catholic United Financial, and Christian Women.
Survivors include children, Mary (David) Hentges, Jim, Leo (Jolene), Irene (Pat) Backes, Ron (Maureen), Jeanie (Michael) Breitbach, Connie (Paul) Magedanz, Sharon Braegelmann, Gary (Jackie), Jackie (Craig) Saathoff, and Ruthie (Greg) Allen; daughter-in-law, Cathy Gertken; brothers, Virgil Eichers and Danny (Alice) Eichers; sister, Florence Rausch; sisters-in-law, Alice Eichers, Katherine Eichers, Martha Gertken, Bernelda Gertken, and Thecla Gertken; 27 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester (1990); son Denis (1990); granddaughter, Serena (1990); daughter-in-law, Shirley Gertken (1983); brothers, Harold Eichers, Elmer Eichers, and Teddy Eichers, and sister, Leone Theisen.
