Doris Lyon, 83 of Long Prairie died Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at her residence in Long Prairie. A funeral for Doris will be held on Friday, November 2, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie; burial will be at Bearhead Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, November 1, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church and also one hour prior to the service at the church.
Doris was born June 10, 1929 in Bruce Township, Todd County, Minnesota to Edward &Gertrude (Rogge) Edvenson. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from high school in Swanville. Doris went to St. Cloud State University, earning a teachers degree and eventually a Masters Degree. She married Leslie Lyon, August 12, 1950 in St. Paul and in the early 1950’s, they moved back to the Swanville area.
Doris taught school for 34 years in over 8 school districts. She was a certified ceramic arts instructor; she started Lonesome Pine Ceramics & helped start over half a dozen ceramic art studios-Doris also started Northwood Ceramic Mold Company. She traveled to many ceramic shows in the United States & Canada.
Doris is survived by her son Leslie (Barb) Lyon, Jr. of Long Prairie, daughter, LoAnne (Lyon) Schluender of Long Prairie; granddaughters, Erika Power of Hudson, WI, Heather Lyon of Jenkins, Christa Lyon of Sturgis, S.D., grandson, Owen (Michelle) Schluender of Sauk Rapids, great granddaughters, Samantha Anne McClaire & Amelia Schluender.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents Edward & Gertrude and husband Leslie Lyon Sr.
