The family moved a number of times, and Fred eventually came to the Long Prairie area where he drove gravel trucks for the WPA. Fred was united in marriage to Una “Nip” Thiegs on April 18, 1938 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie, and they celebrated their 75th anniversary this year. Fred worked as an electrician in Minneapolis for a while, but in the mid 1940’s he started up Starry Electric in Long Prairie which he operated until selling the business to his son in 1986. Fred continued to work as an electrician, employed most recently as the master electrician at the Little Falls Ethanol Plant until it temporarily closed this year. Due to failing health, Fred entered Valley View Estates Assisted Living this year, although he still stayed active there.
Fred enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked to entertain friends, playing cards and dice games. Fred had a camper in which he took many trips, and he played guitar and harmonica for a number of bands, including the “4 Aces”. He and “Nip” loved to dance and attended whenever and wherever one was held. Fred also enjoyed trips to the casino on the American Heritage bus.
Fred was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church and the N.R.A.
