Viola Janet Fearing was born on January 31, 1936 to Arthur C. and Evelyn A. (Nygaard) Fearing in Todd county, MN, near Clotho. She was one of nine children. She went to Long Prairie High School, babysat, and did waitress work on the U of M campus in Minneapolis. She married David Dean Jenkins on August 15, 1953 at the home of Dean’s parents, Lester and Barbara Jenkins, just outside of Long Prairie. They purchased a dairy farm outside of Clotho and were blessed with 5 daughters. Taking care of the farm chores was a family affair, and Viola worked right along side  her husband. In 1978, they sold the Clotho farm and purchased Dean’s parent’s farm (where they were married) 4 1/2 miles west of Long Prairie. In 2006, Viola moved into Long Prairie.

Viola was a longtime member at Clotho United Methodist Church where she was very active. She also worked at the Long Prairie Nursing Home, as well as volunteering there.

Viola enjoyed playing bingo and participating in a card club. She did needlepoint and kept a garden. Viola was an excellent cook, and was noted for many favorite dishes at numerous family gatherings. She also enjoyed the family trips to Laughlin. Viola was very much loved by her family, and will be dearly missed by all.
