Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2012 at American Lutheran Church in Long Prairie for Kenneth “Ken” E. Grahn, age 85, of Long Prairie who passed away on Saturday at the Long Prairie Centra Care Health System. Rev. Bill Bakewicz will officiate and burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. Friends and relatives may call after 12:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church in Long Prairie. Arrangements are entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Stein Chapel in Long Prairie.
Ken was born on May 10, 1927 in Roseau, MN to Elis and Ida (Danielson) Grahn. On April 15, 1950 he married Lorraine Roseen in Roseau and the couple lived there until 1961. Ken served his country twice in the United States Army during World War II and also in the Korean Conflict. He was a proud veteran, serving as a Lifetime Member and Past Commander at the Roseau VFW Post #8663. Ken worked as assistant manager and as a pipe fitter at Land O Lakes for 23 years. He also worked in the Navy Yard in Bremerton, WA and retired in 1989. Ken had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a joke to tell. He was a true family man and enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles and traveling with Lorraine across the country in their motor home. They enjoyed a long retirement together.
Survivors include his loving wife Lorraine, of 62 years; son and daughters, Randy (Juliann) of Cook, Karen (Glen) St. Germain of Long Prairie, and Cindy (Robert) Barchiesi of Steilacoom, WA; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son and daughter, Ricky Elis Grahn and Dianne Gayle Olsen; and brothers and sisters, Knute, Walter, Victor, Carl, Felix, Amy Bond, Ray, Ethel Mattson, Hilding, Clifford and Ruth Solmonson.
