Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m, Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Leona Hemmesch, age 83, who died Wednesday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will be in the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. Friday, November 9th at the Wenner Funeral Home, 151 Oakwood Ave SE, Richmond. Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. following with a rosary to be led by the Christian Women and the Catholic United Financial. Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:15 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home.
Leona was born in rural Richmond to Clara Ruegemer and Jacob Kotchevar and was raised by her grandparents Martin and Anna Ruegemer. She married Harold Hemmesch on September 6, 1948 in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. Leona was a lifelong resident of Richmond. Leona was a wonderful woman who adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was strong in her faith, playing cards, quilting, gardening and volunteering with Harold in the community. She took a very active role in the Knights of Columbus #8303 Auxiliary and 4th Degree Fr Pierz Auxiliary, Catholic United Financial, Christian Women, St. Wendelin Mission Group, St. Rose of Lima Mission Group, American Legion Auxiliary Post #292, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary Post #14, Koinonia and Richmond Senior Citizens.
Survivors include her children, Jerome of St Cloud V.A., Margee (Walt) Keller of Crookston, Janet (Nick) Keller of Richmond, Thomas (Renae) of Richmond, Ann Lucas of Wichita Falls, Texas, Barbara (Mathew) Walz of Cold Spring, George (Joni) of Richmond, Sue (Pete) Dingmann of St Martin, Victor (Beth) of Richmond, Linda (Robert) Schmitz of Cold Spring, Joyce (Jim) Backes of Cold Spring, and James (Sheila) of Richmond; Brothers, Donald Jungles (Lorraine) and Ralph (Mary Jane) Jungles; brothers-in-law, Alex (Frances) and Cyril (Esther) Hemmesch; 34 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in 2011; sons, Michael in 1952, Elmer in 1956; her parents; sons-in-law Robert Lucas and David Stang.
Artificial flowers and memorials are preferred.
