There will be a gathering of relatives and friends from 4:00 – 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring, MN for Eric J. Thomes, age 31, who died Wednesday. Inurnment will be at a later date.
Eric was born in St. Cloud, MN to Joe and Deb (Theel) Thomes. He was a 1999 graduate of Rocori High School. While in high school, Eric participated in the RHS Drumline and later became a member of the Kracker Jacks. Eric was an avid hockey fan. He enjoyed watching the MN Wild, playing pickup games, and especially enjoyed coaching his sons’ team. He was a lifelong fan of NHRA drag racing, never missing an event at BIR in Brainerd. He was active as a Boy Scout throughout his youth and later was able to share his knowledge as a Boy Scout leader for his sons’ troop. Eric was a welder and long time member of Laborers Union 563. He traveled extensively throughout the Midwest working on different projects with the union. He also spent several years in the St. Louis, MO area supervising his own crew, making many memories and friends there.
Survivors include his sons, Joey and Eddie Thomes, their mother, Nicole Zenk; parents, Joe and Deb Thomes; brother, Jeremy Thomes; sister, Stephanie Thomes (Jason Brix); grandparents, Gertrude Thomes, Fay and Eileen Theel; niece, Olivia Thomes; special friend, Sarah Roberts (Rylee and Hayden Roberts), and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Joseph Thomes Sr.; uncle, Jerry Thomes, and cousin, Dan Erkens.
