Robert Arthur Washburn was born February 28, 1939 in Mitchell, South Dakota, along with his twin brother William, to the late Ivan and Ruth (Heistad) Washburn. Bob graduated from Glenwood High School and then enrolled at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD, graduating with a Pharmacy Degree in 1961. As a young man, Bob enjoyed taking trips into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and hunting and fishing. He was an excellent shooter, winning a marksman award as an Eagle Scout. Bob also enjoyed music, played the trumpet and piano and was an avid fan of Elvis, Johnny Cash and the Gaither gospel singers. Shortly after graduating from SDSU, Bob went to work at his father’s drugstore in Long Prairie. Bob was a member of the MN State Pharmaceutical Assoc. He was united in marriage to Eva Claire Korsmo on August 24, 1963 in  Epping, North Dakota. They made their home in Long Prairie, and Bob eventually took over ownership of Washburn Drug in 1969. The drugstore was renamed The Medicine Shoppe in 1990, which Bob operated until selling the business in 2010 upon retirement. Bob was always a hard worker, and could  be found behind the pharmacy counter at least six days a week. He took great pride in his work and providing for his family. Much of Bob’s life was centered on giving to others. For many years, he offered a friendly face and listening ear to those who visited his store. Bob was also a generous and loving husband, father and grandfather who devoted his spare time to his wife and family. He always enjoyed spending time each summer with the family on Lake Miltona. When Eva Claire became ill with a rare form of cancer, he sacrificed much time and energy to help support her through her long and challenging battle. Bob was instrumental in helping win a groundbreaking case against an insurance company, which allowed Eva Claire (and many others to follow) to receive coverage for her medical costs.

Bob will be dearly missed by his children, Marc (Angela) Washburn of Circle Pines, MN, Lynn (Terry) Morlan of Crookston, MN, and Jonathan (Kristine “Tina”) Washburn of Miltona, MN; nine grandchildren, Taylor, Emma, Mathia, Ellie, Joshua, Matthew, Jacob, Evan, and Ruby; and brother, William “Bill”(Judy) Washburn of Grand Rapids, MI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Eva Claire in 2008.
