Ferne Puhr, 88, of Clarissa, passed away at her home on January 23, 2013. Funeral services for Ferne were held on Saturday, January 26, 2013, 2:00 p.m., at the Iten Funeral Home in Clarissa with Pastor Melissa Ehrhardt officiating. Interment was held at Woodman Cemetery, Clarissa.
Ferne was born October 29, 1924, to Samuel & Julia (Lathrop) Forrest in Hackensack. She grew up in the country near Hackensack and on December 30, 1942, at the age of 18 she married Herman Puhr. She traveled with Herman during his military years to whatever base he was stationed at. Ferne had her first born son Richard and daughter Lucille while Herman was still in the service. After Herman’s discharge, Ferne and Herman lived in a small cabin by Ferne’s parents, later moving to Sauk Centre. Martin was born while they lived in Sauk Centre. After a few years, they moved to Clarissa where Herman worked as a mechanic. They had Mark while they lived in Clarissa. They lived most of their lives in the house she lived in when she passed. She was a housewife and bore all her children at her parent’s house in Hackensack.
Ferne is survived by her children: Lucille Taylor of Pierz, Martin (Bonita) Puhr of Ankeny, Iowa, daughter in law, Debra Puhr of Missouri, 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 3 great – great grandchildren.
Ferne is preceded in death by her parents; husband Herman, sons, Richard and Mark siblings: Burton, Avis, Vernon, Pearl, Ula, Percy, Fay, Laurel, Julian and Iola.
