2nd Amendment not about hunting

To the editor:

The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. The word hunting is not even used in the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment reads: “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”

Do you see anything in the Second Amendment about hunting? It says the people have the right to keep and bear arms. Now if you want to use those arms to hunt with, that’s OK. You also have a right to use those arms to protect yourself, your family and your property.

However, the real reason for the Second Amendment is to keep our government from becoming a dictatorship.  We have seen what happens when a dictator takes over like Hitler in Germany and Stalin in Russia. The first thing they do is confiscate all firearms from the civilian population.

Some of you are thinking what we could do against tanks and helicopters; we wouldn’t have a chance. Try telling that to the dictator in Syria. Don’t let politicians get away with “I’m not against guns for hunting”. Hunting is not in the Second Amendment. The words “security of a free state” and  “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” are.

When the president of the United States begins to act as if he has the right to make laws concerning the Second Amendment, without them being passed by the House and Senate, look out. We are headed for trouble in this country.
