Wilbur Self, 73, of Dassel, passed away peacefully at his residence in Dassel on January 26, 2013. Funeral services for Wilbur will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013, 11:00 a.m., at the Assemblies of God Church in Staples with Pastor Roy Miles officiating. Friends may begin calling at 10:00 a.m., at the church on the day of the funeral. Interment will be held at Mount Rose Cemetery, Thomastown.
Wilbur was born August 20, 1939, in Ponchatoula, Louisiana, to Rodney & Vivian (Landry) Self. On July 7, 1973, he married Lois Drone at the Thomastown Covenant Church in Staples. In his early years Wilbur enjoyed traveling with Lois and fishing with his brothers. Wilbur loved to spend time with his family, enjoyed music; especially singing. He was known for always having a smile on his face and a song in his heart.
Wilbur is survived by his daughters: Amy Kral of Dassel; Emily (Damien Peterson) Gandia of Dassel; grandkids: Hayden and Caren Hinson, Lidyea and Logan Kral, Nevaeh Peterson; siblings: Starr (Larry) Botzet of Hutchinson, Ramona Self of Brainerd, Gary West of Brainerd, Kerry (Margaret) West of Wadena, Marie (Robert) Dupuy of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Bruce Drone of Staples, Norman (Shawna) Drone of Aldrich, Jesse (KaAnn) Drone of Staples, Kathy Self of Staples and many nieces and nephews.
Wilbur is preceded in death by his parents, father: Rodney Self Sr., mother: Vivian (Landry) Self, step mother: Betty Self-Drone, wife: Lois, brothers: Rodney Self Jr., Tracey Joseph West the 3rd, Almond Drone, Melvin Self and Dale Self.
