Doug was born on a farm in Albany, MN to Garfield and Viola (Lietz) Hodel. He graduated from Albany High School in 1963 and immediately went into the Air Force. Doug married his first wife, Lois and they later divorced. He had 2 daughters, Kim Wunderlich and Michelle Hodel. Doug married Sharon Mick on April 12, 1986. Together they bought a farm and fulfilled all of their dreams. He was a very passionate person.

He loved auctions that had John Deeres and had purchased the John Deere of his choice to make farming easier. Doug loved all animals; his dog Jake could be found in his vehicles wherever he went.
Survivors include his wife and best friend, Sharon. They spent many hours just sitting and visiting. They cherished that time together.
