MartyGenevieveWEBGenevieve M. “Genny” Marty, age 84 of Burtrum, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 7, 2013 surrounded by her family at the Long Prairie Memorial Hospital in Long Prairie, Minnesota.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 11 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle with Rev. Ronald Dockendorf officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle.

Genevieve Margaret Waldvogel was born December 9, 1928 in Burnhamville Township, Todd County, Minnesota to Peter, Sr. and Frieda (Nagler) Waldvogel. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grey Eagle.  Genevieve graduated from Grey Eagle High School in May of 1946. She was united in marriage to Walter Marty on June 13, 1946. The couple lived a short time in Burtrum and then moved to Nashwauk, Minnesota. They returned back to Grey Eagle in 1962.

Genevieve was a homemaker and devoted mother. She helped her husband raise mink. In 1963 they started Marty’s Sundry Store in Grey Eagle. In her later years, Genevieve worked 26 years at Jennie-O in Melrose. She enjoyed working with her flowers, shopping, stamp collecting, craft work, going to garage sales, and being with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ruth Ann (Raymond) Bense of Burtrum and Ronald Marty of Maynard; grandchildren, Christopher (Teri) Bense of Burtrum, Teriana Bense of Burtrum, Amber Bense of Burtrum, Jefferey (Darla) Marty of Montevideo, and Brent (Jen) Marty of Ghent; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Sierra, Wesley, Kaden, Tegan, Gavin, Dayna, Vance and Blake; and brother, Arnold Waldvogel of Arizona.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Marty in 1991; parents; brothers, Peter Waldvogel, Jr. and Edmund Waldvogel; and daughter-in-law, Kathy Marty.

Serving as casket bearers will be Christopher Bense, Jeff Marty, Brent Marty, Teriana Bense, Gene Waldvogel, and Lonnie Waldvogel.  Cross bearer will be Amber Bense and scripture bearer will be Kaden Marty.  Honorary bearers will be the Christian Mothers.

A special thank you to the Long Prairie Memorial Hospital staff for making her last days memorable.
