Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 7, 2013 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Lloyd L. Kiess, age 85, who died Sunday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Entombment will be in the St. Boniface Parish Mausoleum.
Relatives and friends may call after 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 6th at the Wenner Funeral Home in Cold Spring. Parish Prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m., Thursday morning at the funeral home.
Lloyd “Ferd” was born in Cold Spring to Aloysius and Marcella (Thelen) Kiess. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Cold Spring American Legion for 66 years. Lloyd worked at Kiess Chevrolet as a car salesman where he received numerous Legion of Leaders awards; he retired in 1998. He enjoyed singing in the choir, hunting, Sunday drives in the country, conversing with all he encountered, and sharing stories with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Cold Spring Fire Department, Maennerchor, and St. Boniface Parish and Adult Choir.
Survivors include his former wife, Margie Kiess; children, Mary Jo (Paul) Morrison, John (Patty), Carol Mueller, Ann Hansen, and Jim; brothers, Notker (Fran), Donald (Mary); sister-in-law, Betty Schwindel; daughter-in-law, Jennifer, and 7 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his children, Robert, and baby Kiess; brother-in-law, Gilbert Schwindel.
