A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 8, 2013 at Peace United Church in Long Prairie, MN, for Mildred D. Hillmer, 96 year old resident of Long Prairie, who passed away on Wednesday, April 3rd at Valley View Assisted Living in Long Prairie. Pastor Gary Taylor will officiate and burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Long Prairie. Friends and relatives may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Monday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home, Stein Chapel in Long Prairie.
Mildred Doris Murphy was born on a farm north of Browerville to Halet and Grace (Wilmot) Murphy on March 24, 1917. She went to country school and graduated from Browerville High School in 1935. Mildred went to work in Long Prairie, where she met her husband Ben Hillmer. They were married in Long Prairie on March 27, 1940.
Mildred and her husband Ben liked to dance and play cards. She also enjoyed making rugs and quilts, and crocheting afghans. Mildred worked in several retail stores, the last being Smith’s Department Store in Long Prairie. After her retirement she was active in the Senior Center, serving on their board, and was also a delegate for the Council on Aging.
Mildred wrote the weekly report for the Long Prairie Leader for 16 years.
Left to mourn her passing are her children, Dwight “Shorty” (Myrn) Hillmer of Brooklyn Park, MN, Gail (Tom) Greenwood of Pittsburg, KS, and Kandi Pundsack (fiancé, Dave Smith) of Long Prairie; brother, Lyle (Fuku) Murphy of Boulder, CO; 9 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben; brothers, Adron and Donald Murphy; and sister, Vera Huberty.
Casketbearers will be Tracy Thom, Matt Greenwood, Preston Thom, Brett Greenwood, Josh Finken, Jordan Bosshart, Dalton Sellner, and Chase Bosshart.
