Highway 238 in Albany scheduled to close April 17

Short detour will route traffic around work zone

Motorists traveling Highway 238 through Albany will encounter a detour and possible delays as Highway 238/Railroad Drive closes between First Street and Fifth Street at
9 a.m. Wednesday, April 17.

The segment of road will remain closed through late-July.

A signed detour will direct drivers along Sixth Street and Soo Line Avenue. Both directions of Highway 238/Railroad Avenue will remain open north of First Street throughout the closure.

After this first segment of the road reopens, Highway 238/Railroad Avenue will close between Eighth Street and Fifth Street from late-July/early-August through mid-October. Fifth Street itself will remain open throughout this closure.

The closures are needed as crews reconstruct and improve Highway 238/Railroad Avenue through downtown Albany. Other improvements, including upgrades to power utilities, roadway lighting, curbs and gutters, underground water and sewer utilities, and other necessary work will be completed while the road is closed for construction.

When complete, the project will provide improved safety and mobility and upgrades to other important public infrastructure through downtown Albany.

The city of Albany is leading the project. For more information, including detour maps, visit the project’s website or the city of Albany’s website at www.ci.albany.mn.us.
