Lawrence (Larry) Opelia, 88 of Browerville, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013 at the Central Todd County Care Center in Clarissa. A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Lawrence on Thursday, April 18, 2013; 1:00 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Browerville with Fr. Peter VanderWeyst officiating. Burial was held at Christ the King Cemetery in Browerville.
Lawrence was born May 16, 1924 on the family farm in Iona Township to Peter & Catherine (Gaida) Opelia. He served as a yeoman in the U.S. Navy for two years, later driving for the Highway Post Office, the Minneapolis street cars, and finally Jefferson Bus Lines for a total of 38 years. He married the love of his life, Beulah Bohman in 1964 at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Lawrence had a passion for life and for knowledge of the world; owning and operating his airplane, going to lake cabins in the summer with the family and traveling the country and abroad. He enjoyed living, working and playing on his hobby farm in Little Elk Township with his wife and children. You would find him traversing through the fields and woods on his red Honda 4 wheeler during most months in the last years. He loved the outdoors. Wasting time was not in his nature. There was always something to do. He loved his home, his family, and his God. He will be greatly missed by the many he touched.
