Norman Ernest Kitzman was born on April 7, 1921 in Eagle Bend, MN to the late Charlie and Edith (Anderson) Kitzman. He was born and raised on the family farm. As a young adult, Norman would take over the operation of the farm while his father worked other jobs. In 1942, Norman entered service in the U.S. Army as a medic. While serving overseas in Europe, he received a serious wound and was transported back to the U.S. in 1944. Norman was united in marriage to Roma “Jean” Hockemeyer on June 12, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Prairie. They made their home in Long Prairie. In fact, Norman built with his own hands, 7 homes in Long Prairie for his family. Norman worked for Morrie Olson as a mechanic and also owned and operated the Pure Oil Service Station. After selling the station, Norman delivered mail on a rural route for the U.S. Postal Service. He then went to work for the next 30 years at Hart Press (later Banta) as a press operator, retiring in 1971. However, Norman did not stay retired and spent the next 22 years managing the Prairie View 400 Apartment building, helping residents as problems arose. Throughout the years, Norman stayed busy working on cars, and remodeling his homes in addition to his regular work. He was always willing to help others.

Norman was active at his church, serving as treasurer and Sunday school superintendent. He was a longtime member of Long Prairie V.F.W. Post #1140, American Legion Post #12, and the Disabled American Veterans.

Norman was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his wife of 67 years, Jean; children, Carol Jean (Lowell) Carlson of Brainerd, MN, Charles William (Patricia) Kitzman of Fergus Falls, MN, and Debra Jane (Willard) Lorette of St. Cloud, MN; brother, Donald (Geneva) Kitzman of Brooklyn Park, MN; sister, Arlene Bauer of Long Prairie; sister-in-law, Norma Kitzman of St. Paul, MN; 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 1 great granddaughter on the way.
