Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Cold Spring, MN for Mae Virant, age 89, who died Tuesday at Assumption Home in Cold Spring. Inurnment will be in the St. Boniface Parish Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may gather one hour prior to mass in the church narthex.
Mae was born in Biwabik, MN to Anton Elof and Hilma Marie (Stockey) Youngquist. She married Bill Virant on July 31, 1948 in St. John Catholic Church, Biwabik. Mae attended school in Biwabik and nurse’s training in Detroit, MI. She entered the United States Army as a nurse and served in the South Pacific Theater during WWII. Mae was a homemaker, Cub Scout leader, and was active in local bridge clubs and Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed traveling, hiking and picking blueberries.
Survivors include her children, Priscilla Virant (Lee Rosen), William Jr. (Jeanne), Nancy (Steve) Carlson, Tari (Alvin) Ahlgrim, David (Mary); sister, Edie Herr; brother, Gordon Youngquist.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, sisters, Ellen and Esther; brothers, Carl, Harry, Marvin “Dutch”, John and an infant sibling.
In Lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Rocori area Dollars for Scholars endowment program.
