Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 6, 2013 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin, MN for Raymond “Ray” Blonigen, age 80, who died Wednesday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will be in the St. Martin Parish Cemetery.
A visitation for Ray will be after 4:00 p.m. Friday at the St Martin Parish Hall in St. Martin. Parish prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. followed by a rosary with Catholic United Financial, St. Joseph Society and the Knights of Columbus. 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Queen of Peace will stand Honor Guard from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the St. Martin Parish Hall. Arrangements are with Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring.
Ray was born in St. Martin Township to Mathias and Veronica (Mayers) Blonigen. He married Darleen Faust on May 3, 1961 in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pierz, Minnesota and they were blessed with 6 children. Ray farmed all his life and together with Darleen they farmed Northwest of St. Martin for 52 years. Ray enjoyed fishing, farming, driving tractor, and was very involved in the St. Martin Catholic Church as a trustee for many years and ushering. He designed and built with Worm Lumber in New Munich the first slat floor for a steer barn in the State of Minnesota.
Survivors include his wife, Darleen; children, Florence Schefers, Wilfred (Judy) Blonigen, Shirley (Robert) Solsrud, Nancy (Blaine) Pfeiffer, Ann (Jeff) Soderholm, Sharon (Chad) Geist; brothers, Silverius (Margaret), Clarence (Annella), Leander (Annette); sisters, Bernadine (Orville) Jacobson, Clotilda (Bernard) Bussman, Dolores Pundsack; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and 2 on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Roy Arnzen and Donald Pundsack.
