Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 9, 2013 at Holy Cross Church in Marty for Daniel “Dan” Wicker, age 84, who passed away Monday at the VA Nursing Home.  Father Mark Ostendorf will officiate.  Burial will take place in the parish cemetery following the service.  There will be a visitation for Daniel at Holy Cross Church on Thursday, August 8th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. followed by a rosary with the Knights of Columbus.  Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Friday morning at the church.

Daniel was born on November 24, 1928 to John and Hattie (Dullinger) Wicker on the family farm where his dad was also born.  He graduated from Kimball High School in 1946.  He farmed with his family until he was drafted into the service in 1953.  He served for the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.  When he returned home, Daniel resumed farming.  Daniel married Rita Reller on June 2, 1958 and together they raised six children.  After retiring from farming, Daniel became a “parts runner” for his son, John.  Daniel enjoyed taking care of his orchard and going out for coffee.  He also enjoyed his hunting and fishing trips.  He was especially proud of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Daniel is survived by his wife, Rita; children, Thomas (Kristine) of Crosby, Sharon (Dave) Scheeler of Merrifield, Jeanne (Tom) Pramann of Castlewood, SD, Judy (Charlie) Mueller of Marty, Brenda (Jeff) Reinhardt of Mahtomedi, John (Mary) of Marty; 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; siblings, Roger Wicker, Arlene Dockendorf of St. Cloud, Doris Goenner of Clear Lake, and sister-in-law, Doris Wicker.

He was preceded in death by this parents; brother, Eldred; sister, Patricia, and brother-in-law, Al Voit.
