Craig Alan Lunceford was born September 18, 1957 in Wadena, Minnesota, the son of Adrian & Shirley (Haden) Lunceford. In 1963, the family moved from Verndale to Long Prairie where he attended school, graduating in 1976. Upon graduation, he was employed by Long Prairie Public Schools as a custodian, but soon found his calling in the school cafeteria, serving lunch to thousands of children for the next thirty-eight years.
While in school, he was student manager for many of the sports teams. He loved all sports, and was a finalist in the St. Cloud Times “Superfan” contest. He rarely missed a Long Prairie athletic event over the years, but his ever present headphones and radio kept him in the know of all local games and scores. His unrivaled knowledge of local sports teams, players, coaches, and statistics will not be forgotten. “I like to support the kids,” he often said.
He was a member of Peace United Church, Long Prairie, where he served as head usher. He enjoyed bird watching and hatching Monarch butterflies. He collected thousands of baseball cards over the years. He was a diehard LPGE Thunder /LP Indians, Verndale Pirates, Vikings, Twins, Wild, Lynx, Gopher and golf fan.
He is survived by his mother, Shirley of Long Prairie, sister, Ann (Dennis) Finch of Long Prairie, niece and nephew, Adam (Dana) Finch and Breana (Nick) Conrady, grand-nieces and nephews, Dylan and Delaney Conrady, and Haden and Davis Finch, step-mother, Irma Lunceford, step-brothers, Rodney (Linda)Kamphenkel, Brad (Lynn) Kamphenkel, and David (Audrey) Kamphenkel, and step-sister, Debbie (Cary) Hudalla. His big smile and personality will be dearly missed by hundreds of students, teachers, coaches, student athletes, dear friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father.
