Frank Mikel, 80, of Browerville, passed away on August 10, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services for Frank will be held on Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at Christ the King Catholic Church in Browerville with Father Peter VanderWeyst officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday, August 13, 2013, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Iten Funeral Home in Browerville and on the day of the service 1 hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be held at Christ the King Catholic Cemetery, Browerville.
Frank was born August 3, 1933, in Hartford Township, Todd County, to Louis & Merrlie (DeMars) Mikel.
In 1953, he graduated from Browerville High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on November 16, 1955 and was honorably discharged on November 4, 1957. Frank worked at the Long Prairie Creamery, as a custodian at the Browerville High School in the 1970s, and later retired from the Land O Lakes Plant in Browerville. Apart from his full-time jobs, Frank kept busy performing odd jobs for people such as painting houses, building fish houses, making fishing lures and mounting deer antlers. He enjoyed completing challenging puzzles, woodworking in his shop, playing card games on his computer, playing horseshoes, listening to music and visiting about old times. He was an avid fisherman no matter the season. Frank was a member of Christ the King Church, the Browerville American Legion and the VFW.
Frank is survived by his children: Laurie Brunell of Eagle Bend, Linda (Warren) Clark of Parkers Prairie, Ronald (Lisa) Mikel of Henning, Roger (Joyce Schlueter) Mikel of Bertha, Jennifer (Chris) Christensen of Browerville, Milissa (Kenneth) Dick of Ortonville, Jeremy Mikel of Little Falls and Mandy (Brian Kalb) Mikel of Starbuck; siblings: James Mikel of Long Prairie, Pat Mikel of Browerville and JoAnn Hedlund of Browerville; 11 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; brother Richard; sisters-in-law Betty & Barbara Mikel; and brother-in-law David Hedlund Sr.
