Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 12, 2013 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Alphonse “Al” Petermeier, age 85, who died Sunday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Burial with full military honors by Richmond American Legion Post 292 will be in the parish cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 11th at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond. Prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the funeral home.
Al was born in Elrosa, MN to Ignatus and Caroline (Uhlenkamp) Petermeier. He served in the Air Force from December 12, 1949 until December 13, 1953. He married Evelyn Lensing on June 2, 1953. Together they raised seven “perfect” children. Evelyn died on April 14, 1987. Al married Lucille Hansgen on October 6, 1995. They enjoyed their retirement together until her death on March 15, 2007. Al was a truck driver and owned Petermeier Trucking. He enjoyed music, especially playing the guitar and singing in the church choir and Maennechor. Al also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, his tomatoes, and trips to the casino. He was a member of the American Legion for 58 years, Maennechor, and Sts. Peter & Paul Parish where he was an usher and member of the church choir.
Survivors include children, Jan (Tom) Phillips, Doug (Kris), Joan (Wayne) Lee, Ruth (Kevin) Rothstein, David, Gail (Mike) Gertken, Mark (Katie); grandchildren, Craig (Stacy) Phillips, Brian Lee, Amber Lee, Amanda Rothstein, Adam Rothstein, Krystal (Zeno) Petermeier, Danny Petermeier, Kayla (Drew) Axsom, Christopher (Kayla) Gertken, Nicholas Gertken, Jessica (Robbie) Massmann, Bryan Storebo, Sean Storebo; stepchildren, Cyndy (Ron) Willenbring, Mike Duret, Julie (Kevin) Buermann, Rob Hansgen; step-grandchildren, Chris Willenbring, Cari (Dean) Forster, Ryan (Anny) Buermann, Brianna Buermann, and Curtis Buermann, and 4 step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Erma (Elmer) Ketler, Roman (Tillie), and Edmond (Dorothy).
He was preceded in death by his wives, Evelyn and Lucille, and 3 infant children; daughter-in-law, Laurie; three siblings, Evelyn, Tony, and Florentine.
Memorials are preferred to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church or School.
