Alice Jean Sand, 80

SandAliceWEBAlice Jean Sand, 80, of New Munich, Minn., passed away Oct. 2, 2013, at CentraCare Health-Sauk Centre,  after a brief battle with cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Oct 7, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, with Fr. Marvin Enneking officiating.

Alice Jean Volkmuth was born on Nov. 27, 1932, in St. Cloud, Minn.,  to Anton and Clara (Zapf) Volkmuth.  She grew up in St. Cloud and graduated from Tech High School in 1950.  Alice married Walter (Wally) Sand on May 8, 1952, at St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Cloud. They made their home on the farmstead south of New Munich for 61 years.

She loved to garden, crochet, play cards, sing, play bingo, cook, bake bread, sew and do casino runs.  She was especially grateful for the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Alice is survived by husband, Wally, New Munich; children Daniel (Mary) Sand, Grey Eagle; Thomas (Barbara) Sand, Browerville; James (Karen) Sand, New Munich;  Stephen (Lori) Sand, Cottage Grove; LuAnn (Dennis) Hinnenkamp, Fargo, ND; David (Michelle) Sand, Melrose;  RuthAnn (Wade) Pfremmer, Sedalia, MO;  26 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; brothers Anthony Volkmuth, Waite Park; David Volkmuth, St. Cloud; and sister Francis Jacobson, Isanti.

She is preceded in death by her parents; children Baby Alice (1959), Kenneth (1978), Gary (1985); and brothers Donald Volkmuth and Richard Volkmuth.
