johnsoncClintonWEBThe funeral service for Clinton Johnson will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 14, 2013, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Eagle Bend with Pastor Melissa Ehrhardt officiating. Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at the church on Monday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. He passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at his home in Eagle Bend, MN, at the age of 96 years and 7 months.

Clinton Stanley Johnson was born on March 10, 1917, in Elizabeth, MN, to Charles and Anna (Olson) Johnson, the fourth of ten children. He attended various country schools in Otter Tail County through the eighth grade.

Clinton was united in marriage to Lou Clare Thorud on June 22, 1938, in Wrightstown. They purchased land west of Eagle Bend in Otter Tail County where they farmed, cut cord wood, trapped, and built their home. In December 1946, they moved to their current farmstead where they dairied until 1988. Together they built all of the buildings on their farm.

Clinton and Lou Clare were fortunate to have a long, healthy retirement. Beginning in 1977, they spent their winters in Texas where they started collecting antiques. They opened an antique shop in their old dairy barn which they ran for about 15 years.

Clinton is survived by Lou Clare, his wife of 75 years; sons Kenneth (Linda) of Elk River and Larry (Sharon) of Browerville; daughters Betty (Floyd) Brekke and Bonnie (Gary) Benning both of Eagle Bend, and Beverly (Patrick) Dolezal of Staples; son-in-law Harold Kramer of Vining; 19 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren & 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother Donald (Marcy) Johnson of Eagle Bend; sister-in-law Myrna Johnson of Clarissa; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Clinton was preceded in death by his parents; infant children Sharon and Clinton; daughter Carol Kramer; grandsons Jamie Johnson and Nicholas Benning; siblings Evelyn (Ervin) Rohwer, Laurel (Theresa) Johnson, Helen (Raymond) Anderson, Violet (Charles) Smith, Evangeline (John) Otto, Maxine (Lloyd) Miller, Everett (Sonny) Johnson and Carroll “Dinky” Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Clinton’s grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be David Rolstad, Dan Kruschke, Ross Perish, Dave Gosiak, Mike Hendricks and Doug Sapp.

Burial will be in Hope Cemetery in Eagle Bend, MN.
