Five vying for seat; voter registration deadlines set
Randy Schreifels, Stearns County Auditor-Treasurer, announces that pre-registration for the Nov. 19 Commissioner District 5 Special Primary Election ends on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Pre-registering by Nov.12 ensures the voters’ name will appear on the roster that’s signed on Election Day in the polling place. Voters who miss the pre-registration deadline can still register on Election Day at the polling place with correct identification.
The election became necessary with the death of incumbent commissioner, Don Otto. Five candidates are seeking to replace him: former state Rep. Jeff Bertram of Paynesville, past chair of the Central Minnesota Co-op and Stearns County ADA Dave Gamradt, Sauk Centre Mayor Brad Kirckof, Crow River Township supervisor Alan Loch and Millwood Township Treasurer Steve Notch.
The online registration application is designed to ensure that only persons providing verifiable driver’s license and Social Security numbers will be able to register. Online applications are subject to the same verification process as paper registrations.
Paper applications are still available as well, and can be obtained on Stearns County’s website or by contacting the Auditor-Treasurer’s office so an application can be mailed. Voter registration applications are also available from local city or township clerks. An instructional video can be found on Stearns County’s website.
The Minnesota Secretary of State’s office has also developed a program that allows military and overseas voters to apply for an absentee ballot online. These online applications are available at www.mnvotes.org or on the Stearns County website.
