Marie Thull

Marie E. Thull, 95, a resident of Greenwald, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013 at the CentraCare Nursing Home in Sauk Centre.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at the St. Andrews Catholic Church in Greenwald. Rev. Omar Guanchez officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the church in Greenwald. Parish prayers were held at 5 p.m. followed by the Christian Women and the Daughters of Isabella at 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Marie Elizabeth was born Dec. 7, 1917, in Grove Township, Stearns County to Herman and Elizabeth (Humbert) Sand. She completed schooling through the eighth grade and then helped her family on the farm. On September 27, 1937 she was united in marriage to John A. Thull at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. The couple farmed near Greenwald until their retirement in 1980 and moved into town. In 2012, Marie moved to Fairway Pines in Sauk Centre.
She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Greenwald, St. Anns Christian Women, and the Daughters of Isabella Joan of Arc Circle. Marie enjoyed quilting, playing cards in a card club in Greenwald for 30 years, traveling, and dancing.
Survivors include her children, Alvin (Marjorie) Thull of Sauk Centre, Art (Marge) Thull of Greenwald, Kathleen Welle of Fridley, Jane Becker (John McCullough) of Naperville, Ill., Richard (Marion) Thull of Greenwald, Willie Thull of El Topia, Wash., Mary Zenzen of Bristol, Pa., and Dr. Ted Thull of Rochester; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Paul (Doreen) Sand of Alexandria, Rose Poepping of Melrose, Edwin Sand of Melrose, Walter Sand of New Munich, and Eileen Frieler of Annandale; and sister-in-law, Theresia Sand of Richmond.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, John Thull on Nov. 15, 1981; parents; brother, Sylvester Sand; and son-in-law, Earl Welle
Serving as casket bearers were John Thull, Jack Thull, Shari Welle, Brenda Eibensteiner, Jay Becker, Debbie Ramaley, Lori Johannes and Dean Becker. Cross bearer was Kallie Schreifels and scripture bearer was Luke Eibensteiner.
Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
