Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 noon Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, Long Prairie for Barbara J. Putzkey, age 77 of Long Prairie who passed away on Monday, March 24, 2014 at CentraCare Health Systems-Long Prairie. Fr. Mark Willenbring will officiate and burial will be in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery. Friend may call one hour prior to services at the church. Arrangements are entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home-Stein Chapel, Long Prairie.
Barbara Jean Larson was born April 11, 1936 near Long Prairie, the daughter of Ed and Anastasia (Biehn) Larson. She grew up near Long Prairie and graduated from high school there. From 1954 to 1959, Barbara worked at Hart Press. She married Leo Putzkey on November 28, 1959 in Long Prairie. In 1973, she started employment as a cashier at the Municipal off-sale and liquor store. She worked there until her retirement in 1988.
Barbara was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church and its Christian Mothers group. She was also a member of the Long Prairie V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, fishing, gardening & canning. Barbara loved to bowl. She was an excellent cook and baker. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her husband, Leo, daughters, Angela (Dan) Connor, and Paula (Pat) Bieringer, all of Long Prairie; sister, Ellene (James) Muenchow, Long Prairie; grandchildren, Ann (Luke) Holmquist, Susan (Justin) Peterson, Anthony (Kristi) Bieringer, Justin Connor, Ryan Connor, and Joshua Connor, and great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Brooklyn, Logan and Adam.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Dudley Larson.
