Funeral Service will be at 11 am, Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at First Baptist Church in Long Prairie for Opal M. Sadlemyer, age 95 of Long Prairie, who passed away on Saturday at CentraCare Health Systems-Long Prairie. Pastors Paul Twist & Jerry Bauman will officiate and burial will be in the Pleasant Mound Cemetery, near Clotho. Friends may call from 4-7 pm, Monday, April 7, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, Long Prairie, and one hour before services Tuesday at the church. Opal Mae Dowell was born February 1, 1919 in Leslie Township, Todd County, Minnesota, the daughter of Erie R. & Minnie Mae (Steinka) Dowell. She grew up in Leslie Township and attended country school in Burlene Township. She married John Henry Sadlemyer on June 4, 1941 at her parents home in Leslie Township. The couple made their home in Leslie Township where Opal helped John run Sadlemyer Trucking Company and farm. She moved to Valley View Assisted Living in Long Prairie in 2001.
Opal enjoyed gardening, cooking, entertaining, playing cards, and in later years, bird watching. Her greatest love and enjoyment was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Opal is survived by her children, Diane (Robert) Gustafson, Long Prairie; Bruce (Annette) Sadlemyer, Carlos; and Gary (Rose Ann) Sadlemyer, Omaha, NE; also 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband John in 1992.
