Term begins with a whirlwind of meetings, staffs visits and reading

SteveNotch_WEBFebruary was my first month serving as your new county commissioner, and it has been filled with a whirlwind of committee meetings, visiting with staff and lots of reading material. As I promised during my campaign, I want to share with all of you in District 5 what is happening on a county level.

The commissioners meet on Tuesdays, twice a month, from 9 a.m. until around 11:30 a.m. These meetings are streamed live on Stearns County’s website at www.co.stearns.mn.us and replayed on some of our local cable stations. All past meetings can be found on the website as well.

I am serving on numerous committees, which include the Dairy Advisory Board, Tri-County Solid Waste, Tri-CAP, Feedlot Review Committee, Central MN EMS, Extension Committee, MN Community Health, Community Corrections, etc. I plan to give an overview of some of these committees and what they do over the next few articles that I write.

Some positive changes that will occur in the 5th District in coming months are road improvement projects, such as County Road 85 (the old Highway 23 through Paynesville), County Road 14 between State Highway 4 and State Highway 71 (Spring Hill Road), County Road 18 south of Brooten, County Road 22 from State Highway 71 to County Road 18 near Padua, and County Road 185 from County Road 126 northwest of Melrose to the Sauk Centre city limits. There will be some seal coating projects taking place in the district as well.

I also had a chance to tour the Tri-County Solid Waste facility in Waite Park, which is a joint venture between Stearns, Benton and Sherburne counties to handle the household hazardous waste collections. If you are going to St. Cloud and need to get rid of old paint, stains, varnish or fluorescent light bulbs, there is no fee to drop them off at the Household Hazardous Waste facility. The building is located in Waite Park about three-fourths of a mile south of the Stearns County Service Center. It is open five days a week and the third Saturday of the month for drop off of these items and more. Call Tri-County Solid Waste at (320) 255-6143 if you have questions on what can be dropped off at the facility.

Thank you for placing your trust in me to represent you. If you need to contact me, call 320-836-2199 or email steve.notch@co.stearns.mn.us.
