Kenneth A. Wallin, age 85, of Brooten, MN, died early Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Knute Nelson Care Center in Alexandria. Funeral services held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten, with Pastor Bryant Kaden officiating. Visitation at the funeral home in Brooten from 5:00 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday and at the church on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. Interment in Spicer City Cemetery. Arrangements with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Brooten.
Kenneth Allen Wallin, son of Albert and Grace (Berglund) Wallin, was born on January 24, 1929, in Harrison Township, MN. He attended country school and worked in Spicer, MN, as a young man. His first trucking job was as a Pepsi delivery driver. In 1952, Kenny moved to Lead, SD, where he worked in the Homestake Gold Mine for 11 years. On October 14, 1952, he was united in marriage to Eldora Evenson. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, Nancy. In March of 1963, the family moved back to Minnesota, where they purchased Kinkas Place, a bar/restaurant in Brooten. Kenny also drove truck for Wilbur Richardson. In 1965, he purchased Wilburs trucking business, and continued to operate it as Wallin Trucking until his retirement in 1999. For 25 years of his trucking career he hauled for Belgrade Steel Tank.
While living in South Dakota, Kenny was a member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed visiting with people, trips to the casino, mowing his lawn, and going for rides around town in either his car or on his golf cart.
Kenny is survived by his daughter, Nancy (Mike) Baker of Brooten; a granddaughter, Melissa (Tom) Revermann of New Munich, MN; a granddaughter-in-law, Angela Baker of Osakis, MN; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Anthony, Madison and Connor Revermann and Jeran Baker; a sister,-in-law, Phyllis (Larry) Isaak of Spearfish, SD; 2 brothers-in-law, Don (Donna) Evenson of Belgrade, MN, and Jim Evenson of Wabasha, MN; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eldora Wallin in 1999; a grandson, Jeremy Baker; a sister, Shirley Bjork; 3 brothers, Richard, Raymond and Larry; and 2 step-sisters, Edna Flaggard and Eileen Neuman.
