Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in St. Nicholas, MN for Alfred J. Theis, age 88, who died Wednesday at his home in Cold Spring. Burial with full military honors will be in the St. Nicholas Parish Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Sunday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday morning at the church from 9:00 a.m. 10:15 a.m.
Alfred was born in St. Nicholas to William and Theresia (Schreiner) Theis. He married Lidwina Neu on June 5, 1951 in St. Nicholas Catholic Church in St. Nicholas. Alfred served in the U.S. Army from November 1945 to July 1947. He worked at Cold Spring Granite Co. for 42 years and was the caretaker of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and Cemetery. Alfred was a member of the St. Nicholas Mens Society.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Lidwina; children, Roger (Betty), Diane (Pete) Tourand, Elaine (Ron) Ramler, Carol (Mike) Theis, Helen (Len) Theis, Irene (Clem) Ruhland, Ray (Bonnie), Loraine (Dave) Ashfeld, Mike (Nancy), Kathy (Harold) Vanscoy, Mark (Pam), Sharon (Doug) Hennen, Ken (Shelly), and Jim (Kristin); siblings, twin brother, Alphonse (Alice), Roman, Monica (Lawrence) Huschle, Marie (Ralph) Nistler, Rufina (Sylvester) Jagielski; 42 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three infant brothers; siblings, Stephen, Joseph, Edwin, and Veronica Kaeter; in-laws, Barbara Theis, Eldred Neu, Philomena Theis, Adeline Theis, and Donald Kaeter.
