The sixth annual “Take a Day OFF (Outdoor Family Fun)” will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2 at Stearns County’s Mississippi River Park.

One of Central Minnesota’s premiere outdoor events is returning for its sixth consecutive year on Saturday, Aug. 2, at Stearns County’s Mississippi River Park.

Take a Day OFF* (Outdoor Family Fun) on the Mississippi River will provide families with a chance to experience a variety of outdoor recreational and nature educational activities. The event will include canoeing, fishing, paddle sports, geocaching, archery, live reptiles, make and take projects for kids and much more. No experience is necessary, equipment is provided, and activities are FREE. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2.

The event will include two special canoe paddles down a 5 mile stretch on one of Minnesota’s most precious resources, the Mississippi River. Paddle participants must be registered and ready to load the bus at 10:30 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.. Space is limited and registration is required at the event.  There will be a special presentation by Pine Creek Kennels and MN DNR aquatic invasive species dog, Redgie at 1:00 p.m.

“We are excited to offer this Outdoor Family Fun event” said Katie Winkelman Co-Coordinator of Take a Day OFF* on the Mississippi River event. “We have received wonderful support from a variety of groups and companies; it is humbling to see the amount of financial and volunteer support for this event, without our partners and sponsors this free event would not be available to the community.”

The event has received generous support from the Sauk Rapids, Rice and St. Stephen Sportsmen’s Clubs, Xcel Energy, Stearns County Chapter of Pheasants Forever, Matthew Hall Lumber, and many local clubs and businesses.

The event is organized by the Stearns County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), Stearns County Parks, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Tips Outdoor.

Stearns County Mississippi River Park is located 7 miles north of Sartell on County Road 1 (41300 County Road 1, Rice, Minn.). This is a rain or shine event, but in the case of severe weather please listen to WJON AM 1240 for cancellation announcements.
