Layered Lettuce Salad

1/2 head lettuce, torn up
1/2-3/4 c. chopped onion
1/2-3/4 c. chopped celery
1 can peas, well drained
3/4 c. mayonnaise
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese
1 c. bread cubes, sauteed until brown in 3 Tbsp. butter
Tomato wedges

Layer lettuce, onions, celery and peas in bowl. Completely seal. Top with mayonnaise. Evenly sprinkle top with sugar and Parmesan cheese. Cover tightly several hours or overnight. Just before serving, toss with croutons and garnish with tomato wedges.
